Elliot isn’t happy that his Aunt Maple is coming over to babysit him. He knew it would a long and boring day, which is something he wanted to avoid. In order to have a day free of his aunt, Elliot created a robot named Ellibot to take his place downstairs while he played the day away in his room. Everything started out great but after a few hours, Elliot was bored and went downstairs to see what was happening. To his surprise, Aunt Maple and Ellibot were having fun without him. Immediately regretting using the Ellibot decoy, he decided that he should be the one playing with his aunt and tried to figure out a way to switch places so his aunt wouldn’t find out he had tricked her with a robot. Elliot soon runs into trouble when he realizes that Ellibot doesn’t want to give up his place and time with Aunt Maple.
I thought Ellibot and Aunt Maple was a fun, adorable read. Sharon CassanoLochman has done a wonderful job creating a story that teaches a young reader that it’s important to spend time with your relatives. They might not seem the most fun but you miss them when you aren’t with them. Aunt Maple is portrayed as an older lady in the artwork so you can also say that the story teaches kids to respect their elders. The storyline itself is short and sweet with beautiful illustrations that go perfectly with the tale. It’s definitely a great children’s book that I would recommend to friends.
