Dust Fairy Tales: Absolutely Aggie by Michelle R. Eastman is the tale of Aggie the fairy, who doesn't fit in with the other fairy girls. She is loud and clumsy and her hair and clothes don't look quite right. She loves to play music on her bagpipes, but the other girls tell her that she needs to change and be more like them if she wants to fit in. Aggie tries her best, but can't make herself like them. Upset, she hides away until Dust Bunny finds her and asks her to play in his band as she is perfect the way she is. She's absolutely Aggie, just how she's meant to be, is a great line and shows us that there is always a place for us to fit in; we just have to find it.
Michelle R. Eastman has created a wonderful book with Dust Fairy Tales: Absolutely Aggie. The pictures really help tell the story and Aggie is a great character for kids who don't quite fit in. It is important to have a sense of self from a young age and not follow the crowd. Everyone is different and they each have their own unique talents and looks and shouldn't be excluded for this. Aggie is made to feel bad for being different, but fits in with the band perfectly. Kevin Richter is the illustrator for this book and the pictures will appeal to kids as they are bright and cheerful. I think this will be a very marketable book for kids.
