Discovering North of Chile by Car - a very wordy title, yet descriptive in its lengthiness. You get exactly what is promised, which is a journey in the North of Chile, as seen from a car... Franco Folino has clearly taken as many aspects of the country into account as possible and it is a very enjoyable read!
I love Chile. Ever since I learned about South America, particularly the Spanish speaking countries, I have wanted to travel to Argentina, to Uruguay, and to - of course - the beautiful environs of Chile. It is such a vibrant and variable country, touching on both a tropic and an arctic plane. How crazy is that? You can be in the same country and be in completely different environments...one with toucans and the other with penguins. Discovering North of Chile helps to give life to that vibrancy and depict a country that we in the Northern branch of the Americas rarely get to see.
One thing of note was that, rather than illustrations, the images in this book were entirely made up of photos. I wasn't expecting that from the title, but oh well! My favorite photos were of the people of Chile and showed familiar images of native descendants as well as the modern culture, which was really awesome. Franco Folino did a lovely job with Discovering North of Chile by Car, and I would be happy to read anything else he happened to write while driving around. Maybe Argentina next?
