Dirty Soul by McKenzie Teter is a book of poetry that leads us by the hand through a long journey of life. Through love and through loss, we live a life of color, color that stains our souls as we journey onwards. Soft blue, deep red, deep blue, green and purple, each color plays a significant role in the author’s life; each color represents experience, a certain emotion that shaped life, and each poem is assigned one of these colors. Dirty Soul is going to take you on a journey you will never forget, a journey that will teach you how to find your own colors, the colors that shape you and make you who you are.
Dirty Soul by McKenzie Teter is an interesting book. I don’t normally read poetry but this book resonated with me as it should resonate with most people. I identified with some of the poems quite easily although maybe not the same colors, but then the idea is that we each find our own colors in life. Every one of us has had life experiences that have shaped us, that have led us down different paths and to read of someone else’s experiences in poetry form was quite different. It gives us an insight into the life that has been led, a kind of autobiography in a different format. I found it easy to read because the words flowed well and told clear stories; you might have to think about one or two of them but that will just get you thinking about your own life and experiences. Enjoyed this well written and comfortable read.
