"Desert Intrigue: The Adventures of John and Julia Evans" by Linda Weaver Clarke portrays a great summer on the beach relaxing in a chaise lounge book. The characters are very easy to be liked and the plot keeps you reading to the end. Julia’s brother Kelly has inherited the family land in Arizona. He has worked hard to establish a successful ranch offering his guests a chance of riding up Superstition Mountain and looking for the lost Dutchman's goldmine. But, suddenly rumors fly that the ranch is haunted and the guests stop coming. Kelly worries that he will have to sell because he is running out of money to keep the ranch running. He calls to discuss his woes with his sister. Julia, her very devoted and loving husband John, and their twin daughters, Faith and Sharlene, head to Arizona to try and help. Strange and mysterious things continue to happen. There are sightings of the legendary Thunder God, mysterious fires and a threat to Julia’s life adding to Kelly’s decision to sell, but Julia keeps using her investigative skills in an effort to try and prevent losing the land they love. Meanwhile back home, April, daughter number three, is left trying to plan her imminent wedding. Everything that can go wrong does and we share the misfortunes of messed up flowers, incorrect invitations, the wrong wedding dress and last minute nerves with April and Matthew.
Linda has written a book that offers the readers mystery, adventure, romance and the chance to spend time with a loving, caring family. The Evans family becomes our friends. "Dessert Intrigue" is a book for everyone from the young adult to the oldest person. It is an old fashioned, whodunit, good story said in a clean language. there is no uncomfortable sex scene either. This is the fourth in a series. I have not read the others yet, but I have placed them high on my to-be-read summer reading list. A five stars salute to Linda Weaver Clarke and "Dessert Intrigue."
