A sinister evil is lurking near the edges of a small magical town, waiting to pounce and siphon away the life and beauty living within its confines in the young adult fantasy novel, Delinquent Magic by M.W. Fowler. Charlotte Caster was born a witch. Her mother is a witch, but her father and brother are both non-magical. Abruptly leaving their home, the family moved to the small magical town of Odyl. One of the good things about their move is the school incorporates a magical curriculum for witches and wizards. When Charlotte attends school, the most popular girls insist she hang out with them. Unexpectedly, when Charlotte goes shopping with them, she notices a residue of dark spells in one of the shops they visit. Charlotte is uncomfortable, as well as frightened, and leaves. Something evil is leaving the mark of its presence throughout the town, and only the ghost of a missing boy can help Charlotte discover what it is. But although she can see him, he hasn't communicated with her. Does he know who is behind the disappearances of other students? Can they be stopped before Charlotte or those she cares about become victims?
Delinquent Magic by M.W. Fowler is a brilliant young adult fantasy novel. It is an enchanting tale with an enjoyable plot and captivating characters. As a typical teen, Charlotte is engaging, personable, and likable. I appreciated her family's dynamic and chuckled a few times at her father's attempts to mediate between Charlotte and the rest of her world. This superbly written book is delightfully entertaining and will captivate and charm fans of fantasy who enjoy stories that contain teenage witches, wizards, and magical adventures.
