Death Valley Scotty is a delightful story of days gone by and a flashy figure which has disappeared into the desert sands of time. The showy and eccentric character of Robert Carter’s book is one that will not soon be forgotten in history or in legend. Walter E. Scott, Scotty, was the kind of character which steps outside the norm and becomes bigger than life. The risky lifestyle that Scotty took on, and the way that he played the game as a showman, is something which will never be seen again. It is impossible not to fall in love with Scotty as he takes banks, newspapers, investors, and numerous others on a wild ride across Death Valley. Just like the life of Albert M. Johnson, a wealthy but disabled Chicago business man, was changed by Scotty’s wild adventures, so will the lives of readers of this account. The reader will find himself riding every wave of emotion in anticipation of Scotty’s next move and will eagerly cheer him on.
It is impossible not to be drawn in by the playful and over-the-top tale of Death Valley Scotty by Robert Carter. Scotty is a character for the ages reminiscent of Rooster Cogburn and Davy Crockett. The wild ride that readers will go on in this masterfully written work is one that will stay with them forever. Each page turned reveals another layer to a legendary figure and the crazy adventures that rivals those of Homer. Delightful, endearing and spellbinding; Death Valley Scotty is a must-read for those who enjoy historical fiction and, more specifically, those who love fiction of the Wild West.
