Danville Horror: A Pat Wyatt Novel: The Pat Wyatt Series, Book 3 is a contemporary paranormal fantasy novel written by Laura Del. Pat Wyatt does not want to go home again, no matter what the old slogan says about going home. She's still reeling from the attempts on her life, including, most recently, that made by her werewolf boyfriend, Mike, and the concept of being matron of honor at the wedding of her father to a woman not much older than herself just doesn't sit well with her. While her mid-section is securely bandaged, the wounds caused by Mike's claws still weep and make moving painful. And the image of a ruffled bridesmaid's dress rankles her no end. While she wants her father to be happy, she still misses her mom who died way before her time, and Cindy seems a poor replacement. When she finally drives into town and parks outside the house where she grew up, she's somewhat surprised to find it empty. Sure, there were some minor changes of decor, such as the flat-panel television on the wall, but no one was there to greet her.
Laura Del's contemporary paranormal fantasy novel, Danville Horror, is the third book in her Pat Wyatt Series, but the author skillfully weaves enough of the background story into the plot to allow this volume to be read as a stand-alone story. Wyatt's past is littered with memories both mundane and otherworldly, from her betrayal by her fiance and her sister on the eve of her wedding, to her fortuitous escape from the wealthy vampire husband who hid a secret torture chamber in his Hamptons mansion, and then onward to the complexities of shifter politics as the girlfriend of the would-be Alpha of a werewolf pack. Pat's got a lot on her plate, but she manages to handle it all with not a little bit of bluster and a very supportive crew of allies. This is a fast-paced and very entertaining shifter novel that I had trouble putting down. Del's characters are finely crafted, and watching as they interact is a treat in itself. Danville Horror: A Pat Wyatt Novel is a grand read and it is highly recommended.
