What does it take to be a good detective? Four-year-old Dani knows. First you need a mystery. Then you need to have an inquisitive mind and know the right questions to ask. When Dani finds something unusual in the shrubs at the back of her yard, she stops at nothing to solve the mystery. What is it? What is it doing in her yard? And why was the neighbor’s cat so interested in it? Surprisingly, solving the mystery leads to another mystery: what happened to the neighbor’s cat? It also leads to a new friendship with the little girl who just moved into the house behind Dani’s. Now young Detective Dani has a partner to help her solve mysteries.
K. Lamb’s Dani: New Beginnings is a prequel to the Dani P. Mystery Series. In this short, easy-to-read young people’s novel, Dani’s inquisitive mind begins with solving her very first mystery. She comes by her detective skills naturally, having an uncle who’s the local sheriff. But it also helps to know what questions to ask and to never give up. The plot develops at a steady pace and the young reader will enjoy following Dani as she analyzes each clue until she solves the mystery. Which, of course, only leads to another mystery. The characters are believable and loveable. Dani is part of a loving family unit and she is excited to meet the new girl and have her very first best friend forever. This is a charming story as well as a good mystery. One is never too young or too old to enjoy a good mystery.
