Crime Spree by Chuck Morgan is the 9th book in the Buck Taylor series. Jimmy Weschler, Pine County's sheriff, has gone missing, and it's down to Agent Buck Taylor of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to locate him, but they are not prepared for what they find. Situated on the Continental Divide Trail, Pine County is a quiet mountain town, but it hides some deadly secrets. Designer drugs go hand-in-hand with ancient Viking rituals, and Buck Taylor uncovers evidence of multiple murders. Add a Russian hitman to the mix, a ghost unknown to law enforcement, and things take a bizarre turn for the worse. Can Buck and his team discover the connection between the crimes in time, or will more people have to die first? One thing is for sure; this will be one of Buck Taylor's toughest cases to date.
Crime Spree by Chuck Morgan could probably be read as a standalone novel, but I recommend reading the entire series to appreciate the main characters fully. This is not a story for younger readers or the faint-hearted, given the language and scenes of graphic violence and sex. It is one of the best crime novels I have read in a long while, with real characters developed in a way to let you get to know them intimately, understand them, and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses. The plot is tight, exciting, and tense, with plenty of action, and it will grip you from the start. The bizarre storyline is enthralling, written in descriptive prose that lands you right in the middle of the action. Forget sleep; once you pick this book up, you won't want to put it down until it's finished. Fantastic story, and highly recommended for fans of high-octane crime thrillers.
