Prepare yourself for Strange Birds Behaving in Strange Ways. Crazy Bird Stories features 12 birds that possess unusual traits. For each of the 12 birds, author Daryl Barnes has fabricated some of their character aspects and created a rhyming, silly description. And then illustrator Stephen Adams exaggerates the features to create zany bird artwork. Though humorous and entertaining, this book is also educational. You will learn more about these crazy birds and their habitats, eating habits, and mating rituals. Written in rhyming verse, the author emphasizes a character trait of a bird and makes it seem hilarious. Crazy Bird Stories is a great way to get children interested in birds. I like how there’s an impression of a bird hidden in the illustrations on each page to encourage children to go back to find all of them.
Is it fiction or non-fiction? Is it possible to be captivated and enlightened by the same book? Children will like Crazy Bird Stories because of the silly tales and amusing artwork; parents will learn something, too. This is a great book for parents to read with children or children to read alone. The full-page illustrations in Crazy Bird Stories are outstanding! Illustrator Stephen Adams provides humorous, beautiful artwork in full color. There are several helpful pages in the back of the book describing each bird and a brief description. Learn more about each bird’s peculiarities and favorite foods. I think school and public libraries will want to stock Crazy Bird Stories by Daryl Barnes.
