Counterstrike: Heaven Sent (Book 4) by Travis L Salisbury is an autobiography. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience of adults and mature young adults, who are not literary purists, enjoy non-fiction, and those who do not mind strong language. This book is collection of author memoirs, as well as an account of the creation of the first three books of the series. It is designed to be a mini biography on the life and death of the previous author, Janet Claire Smyth, as well as the new author, Travis L Salisbury. Unlike the previous books in the series, this book is not fiction, but instead this book dives into the author’s own life, memories, and reactions to the life and death of Janet Claire Smyth.
I have to say I was originally a bit confused by Counterstrike: Heaven Sent because I was unsure of the purpose of the book. However, as I read more and more of it, I found it to be a rather touching book and I found myself interested in learning more about Janet Claire Smyth. The author used a non-typical style of organization in that the chapter titles were more like short summaries that described the chapter; for example, one chapter title was “Game Over, Janet Claire Smyth 1950-2014, Cancer Wins Again.” I personally liked this style of organization with how the chapter titles really told me about the chapter and the fact that each chapter was only as long as it needed to be. Overall, I found this book to be a very interesting read.
