In Corsana: The Phalanx Syndicate by Charles Wellington II, one learns to become a hero by acting, not dreaming. Christopher Knight, or CK, has held a secret close to his heart since he can remember. He is a psionic; he has the power to make things happen just by using his mind. This amazing power gave him dreams, dreams of becoming a hero one day. He wanted to have people appreciate him and love him. However, none of these dreams included being held captive in a cave or beaten up by fantastical creatures. If he cannot save himself, how can he save people?
His powers are tested when a merchant ship arrives at the city of Corsana and all hell breaks loose. When the call for adventurers to investigate is made, CK snatches the opportunity to broadcast his special talent to everyone. He does not realize that he will be lost in a sea of unknown danger. He would have to hone his powers to survive the horrors in store for him. He lives in a world where dragons, goblin, orcs and giants are real. He needs to have incredible powers to fight the dangers imposed by a great power that is threatening the lives of all. But can CK save the people and his mind at the same time?
Corsana: The Phalanx Syndicate by Charles Wellington II was a very enjoyable novel. This epic fantasy is exactly what you need if you like heroes who slay dragons and overcome bad with the goodness inside them. The fantastical elements were spot on and very timely. I really enjoyed it! CK is such a strong character, he is filled with dreams of becoming a hero, but he is addled by it. He is intelligent and very sensible. Five stars for this epic novel.
