The premises of the book "Corporate Escape: The Rise of the New Entrepreneur" by Maite Barón begins with the tale of the eagle who, in order to live beyond forty years, has to go through a process of change. This implies flying to a mountain top, breaking off its beak against the rocks and plucking out its talons and feathers. New ones would grow back so that the eagle can live for another thirty years. If it doesn't go through this painful process, death would soon follow. The author says that it is the same with humans: we are born leaders, but through education and indoctrination we became followers. So it is up to every individual to live the life of the eagle and escape mediocrity through change, or stay in an unfulfilled job or relationship giving us a false sense of security. You can surpass that and start living your dream by escaping the corporate life and becoming the new entrepreneur, making your own decisions and finding a healthy work/life balance.

The book is enjoyable to read as it is packed with tales from which you can draw your own conclusions. There are also plenty of exercises that make you think about your own life and also come up with the steps you need to take in order to change what goes wrong. The overall tone of the book is motivational, so at the end of it you can be left with a strong desire to finally follow your dream that you kept postponing for various reasons. Once you realise those reasons were just excuses, you are ready to make the necessary changes and become the eagle or the New Entrepreneur.

f you're considering leaving the rat race, read this book.

If you have recently started your own business, read this book.

In fact, even if you already consider yourself an entrepreneur: Yes - you've guessed it - read this book!

Wherever you are in your journey at building your business, you will gain from Maite Baron's expertise.
Certainly no `fluffy' stuff here!

The author shares her own experiences, good and bad, and there's no question that she is passionate in helping the reader avoid similar mistakes in her earlier business life. There's real focus in her writing, meaning that you'll inevitably question whether you are on the right track to achieving your own aspirations. Action the exercises she has crafted too, which means you'll benefit even more.

What I adore about this book are the parable-like stories Maite Baron skilfully includes with relevance to get her message across. It's more than thought-provoking.

Highly recommended!

I've known about and followed Maite Baron's work for about five years now, but her book "Corporate Escape" really is the culmination of all of her past work. I read this book in double quick time and was astounded at what I found out about myself. Is it about how senior execs can "escape" to a more fulfilling work / life situation? Yes. But it's also much, much more.

This is about looking at your entire work / life situation and peeling away the layers of lies and misinformation. It's about looking deep into yourself and facing your own demons. It's about coming out "the other side" with a definite view of what you want to become and where you want to go.

This book is a real game changer, a life changer, some might say life saver. If you have any doubts as to whether or not you are in the right place in your life - then this is a "must read".

This book is a must read, I just wish it had been around years ago. I spent years working in big investment banks and wanted to figure out how to ready break free of big corporate, not just move to another bank, but get out of being in the employee trap. This book is very insightful, it makes you realise what is going on, and what you need to do to make a necessary change your situation. The stories, and exercises throughout the book really help you understand.

I've read a number of `how to become an entrepreneur' type books, they are big on mechanical things like how to set up a website, and social media etc etc. But this book is at a different level it really gets to the thinking and understanding what's needed to shift from being another cog in the corporate machine to seeing thinks like an entrepreneur.

After reading this book I realized how much time was lost during my life. Energy and time you can save and use it in other way.
I love how this book is written, the flow of the chapters, the personal experiences, the exercises that make you think, that encourage you to take a decision, your decision.
Maybe you know you're an entrepreneur, you'll learn how to get your goal. Maybe you don't know you're an entrepreneur, this book will change your mind.

Written with a passion that shines through on every page – the message here is clear, you can move beyond conformity and mediocrity, if you choose.

The structure of the book is excellent and it flows really well. I think the book will resonate most with people in their 40s and in professional careers . It could also have a wider appeal to younger (or older) people who are frustrated by unsuccessful job hunting because they are going for vacancies on the basis of conformity rather then their own passions and interests.

The book is also relevant to people who may be questioning some of their personal relationships, not just marriages or intimate relationships, but also those with parents, friends or colleagues, where they find these are draining rather than uplifting.

The way the book is organised – into distinct parts – is very effective. It gives the reader a clear sense of progression from identification of the problems through to how to really solve them. It is nice and concise. The exercises are also good, asking the reader to answer certain questions about themselves and then reflect on their answers in slower time.

Corporate Escape is an eye-opener on understanding why so many professionals feel unhappy at work, not reaching their potential. With so many organisations operating from old leadership models and shying talent away, Maite Baron’s practical guide for New Entrepreneurs gives the reader a clear vision and most importantly tools to fly and stay high. The author's no-nonsense approach shows that fulfilment and prosperity is available to anyone who has the courage to shift their mindset and leverage their expertise to thrive on their own terms. If your resolution is to ‘do more’ and ‘have more’, this book is a ‘kick-in-the butt’ that will put you into action mode. Particularly if you feel stuck or in transition, this book is definitely a must read.

Where was this book when I started out 25 years ago? I found the leap from government security to the proverbial wild west of entrepreneurship to be a quite a jolt.

So when I was introduced to the excellent “Corporate Escape: The Rise Of The New Entrepreneur” by Maite Baron, I was naturally curious as to what advice it offered to fledgling entrepreneurs or perhaps former executives of companies seeking to reinvent themselves.

To begin, the first sections of the book do a terrific job of illustrating the profound differences between the employee mindset vs. entrepreneurial mindset – and this alone is well worth the price, especially if you are transitioning from the world of employment to entrepreneurship.

The book immediately tackles the all too pervasive mindset clutter i.e. lack of values clarification, limiting beliefs, difficult naysayers, problematic family issues, etc. It tackles them all in a systematic fashion that is easy to understand, and better yet, easy to act upon. There are stories to illustrate each of the principles, and simple but powerful exercises designed to pull out the necessary insights for you to move forward.

It is not an easy task to transition from the mindset of a loyal corporate employee to a business owner and thankfully I survived and thrived building a large successful business – but I could have saved considerable pain and frustration had I had this in my toolbox. As a present day global business strategist and coach, I can tell you that in all candor it took me years to accumulate much of the wisdom shared in this book.

I would highly recommend this to those seeking to transition to the world of entrepreneurship or to anyone who needs to clear the clutter and do some serious zero base thinking to reassess their life and their career no matter what stage they are at.
