FBI Agent Ben Blanchard has a new assignment. How in the world did they find his German spy partner? There is no way he can investigate the Nazi sabotage operation with this woman. A woman who could pass as his deceased wife. Their assignment takes place in Sugar Falls, Ontario, a small town where pretty much nothing happens. Well, that is until they stumbled on some mysterious stuff that would take on the Nazis' plan. Ben had no choice but to depend on his faith in God to make sure the Nazis didn't carry out their plan.
This is my first book by Michael James Emberger, and he is a phenomenal writer. He captured my attention early on in Codename Mermaid. The characters are created with great intensity and growth throughout this story. The main and supporting characters are amazing, but if I have to pick a favorite it would be Vickie. She endured so much that at times I would wonder how she could survive. I was in awe of her faith in the Lord, even in the most trying times. There are many twists and turns that totally threw me off track, and I never imagined the ending. One delightful twist is the appearance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, "Ode to Joy". I found it gives a measure of calmness in the midst of the chaos. If you enjoy an awesome WWII historical thriller, Codename Mermaid by Michael James Emberger is the book for you.
I listened to the audio version of Codename Mermaid. Narrated by Kristina Rothe, listening to this exciting and intriguing story was a pleasure. The sound was clear and of high quality. Rothe was great fun in how she changed her voice with each character. I think she does a pretty good job with her voice changes too. I would be happy listening to more books narrated by Rothe.
