Clarity of Sight by Dani Resh is the second book in the Magic Shoe series. The book primarily deals with Underfoot, a magical realm situated underground. Underfoot is going through a tumultuous time and Maria, the narrator, must keep fighting alongside her friends to save her parents and the other abducted people of her world. On her journey, she keeps on seeing unexplained beams of light, and even in her dreams, she receives premonitions and finds unsettling entities trying to communicate with her. Amidst all the disturbing experiences, her friends stand by her side, and their combined efforts and determination continue to lead them along the way to success.
Dani Resh’s Clarity of Sight immediately pulled me into the world it features. Through the use of effective descriptions and clear dialogue, Resh has constructed the story in such a way that I could follow it quite easily despite not having read the first book of the series. Resh not only offers us excitement but also delivers important lessons throughout the story. One of the most significant messages that I could find here is that nothing should be taken for granted. The characters help us to see what a nod of appreciation from a parent, a hug from a friend, and even the regular atmosphere of a tavern among many other seemingly small things can mean to someone who has lost them or never had them in the first place. The book ends in the middle of a thrilling moment, and I believe that anyone reading it would feel the urge to grab the sequel.
