From his child's infancy to adulthood, Shad Arnold shares his personal journey of fatherhood in Claire’s Dad. Imparting wisdom, strategy, and specific parenting skills, Arnold shares the joys and pitfalls of raising his daughter, Claire. He reminds fathers repeatedly throughout the book that you must “earn the title of Dad.” Daughters are different than sons; they are “delicate souls” who require more than logic, action, and reaction. Daughters have value, an “eternal worth.” The world is a better place because your daughter is in it. Your daughter needs your steadfast love, focused time, a listening ear, protection and your open heart for a lifetime. Be her hero, be her Dad!
Claire’s Dad by Shad Arnold is a must-read for every father. The narrative is rich with wisdom and insight. It is humbly written, honest and real. Understanding that men like concise and detailed instructions, each chapter ends with a recap and checklist. As a woman, daughter and a mother of three grown daughters, for me, Claire’s Dad was refreshing and encouraging. The art of fatherhood has lost its appeal in our rushed, chaotic and controversial culture. Yet, Shad Arnold took his role as a father seriously; he stepped out of his comfort zone and shaped and prepared his daughter for the world. Through his pursuit of parenthood, like all of us, Shad made mistakes, but he owned up to them. The narrative demonstrates a lifelong devotion of faith. “There is always hope, always a way, and always a Savior to rely on.” Claire’s Dad is an essential tool for every father’s toolbox. It inspires and challenges fathers to raise daughters who will change the world.
