City Vamps by Danny Fisher is a vampire tale with a little difference. Maggie Shaw is an alcoholic, an ex-reality TV star who has lost her own grip on reality. She enters rehab and is given the ultimate sweetener to finishing her course – a leading role in a popular vampire sitcom called City Vamps. The sitcom is about the lives of five vampires, all single, who live in New York City. But Maggie has to prove herself first. Coming from a reality TV background, she isn’t seen as a serious actress and needs to push herself hard to make things work. She must make a decision – how far will she go to stay in the spotlight when she discovers that all is not as it seems amongst her co-stars.

City Vamps by Danny Fisher was a good read. It was different from the normal vampire stories that are about today and had a decent storyline to it as well. It had humor, both dark and light, as well as good characterization. To be fair to Ms. Fisher, she has written her characters in such a way that you begin to feel like you know them personally after a while, as if you are living with them. I must say I enjoyed the book, and found it just right for a bit of nighttime reading. It wasn’t too heavy, it was easy to keep up with and not difficult to follow. Very good story, and I would be interested to read the sequel.
