Choose Your Friends, Choose Your Life: Confessions of a Married Man is a memoir written by Preston Young and Deborah Mancuso. When Preston loses his father, his hero, his life changes drastically at the tender age of 10. Even though he had a loving mother and three brothers, they could not stop him from making the choices he made. This is Preston’s story about the people in his life and the circumstances that caused him to make the decisions and choices he made. This is Preston’s story about how he arrived at where he is today. Preston shares his lessons learned and experiences in life to possibly help others who could be going down the same road.
Choose Your Friends, Choose Your Life is also a celebration of what happens when the right people are in your life. There are five elements to writing a memoir, and the authors ticked every single one of them. It is real. It is written with truth and passion. Being a mother, I feel I was able to relate to events from a few perspectives at once. This book will stay with me for a long time as our family is currently dealing with death and the loss that is associated with it. I am teaching my son that it is okay to be sad and that death is a natural process of life. This book has shown me what might happen when someone doesn’t have the support they need. Author duo Preston Young and Deborah Mancuso have shown me what could happen when people try to help without really caring.
