Chips and a Log by Toldi Lili is very interesting with a novel idea of bringing together short stories and poems in one book. Some of the short stories are funny, some less funny. But on the whole, the book is a wonderful read. The poems break away from the norm and put the book on an unusual track.

I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes it is nice to read a book which actually does not stick to the traditional format. The bringing together of the short stories and poetry is a refreshing idea. The verses are excellent and they enhance and complement the tone of the book. And it reminds me of those Victorian/Romantic era books which have stories interspersed with some verses.

I personally think it requires great courage to actually pen a book like Chips and a Log and achieve acceptance, mainly because it does not adhere to the general rules of books. The Hungarian song that is added in between is very appealing. Again it's the unusual which makes the book interesting to me.

A streak of light humor runs throughout the text. The poems which come in between -- I, You, Love, Oyster, The November Association -- are all of different styles. There are underlying tones of spirituality in those poems which makes the reader go through them again and again.
