Chick Lit And Other Formulas for Life by Abby Rosmarin is a gentle story about life and self-discovery. Katy Sinclaire left college in 2003 and two years later, she is still working in a bookstore, the same one she started in as a teenager. She goes out of her way to avoid the customers, criticizing the “women’s fiction” section of the store and clock watching. She’s not happy but she doesn’t go out of her way to make changes. Then something happens, something that starts the ball rolling to change her life and make her see that her life really isn’t going anywhere. From a chance encounter, to a drop-dead gorgeous boyfriend, and even the best friend who is in love with Katy but she can’t see it, Katy’s life suddenly becomes a roller coaster of emotions, following the same course as the chick lit books that she absolutely detests. Katy needs to work out if she has a purpose in life and, if she does, what exactly is it?

Chick Lit And Other Formulas for Life by Abby Rosmarin was one of those books that rolled along nicely, an easy read and one with a story that many of us can relate to. It was a strong book, very well written, and a story that unfolded as it should. It was lightly humorous in places, not a heavy or fast paced book, and that makes it the ideal read for a time when you want to lose yourself without having to think too much to keep up with the story – and I don’t mean that in any derogatory way at all. There are lots of lessons in this book – in love and in life itself – along with good advice and I enjoyed reading it. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
