Mitchell Krautant was a member of Force Recon Company in the USMC. He took an IQ test in the USMC and got a 142 on it, which is in the top 0.5% of the world. He did severe training, and wound up injured with PTSD. He got out of the USMC after being in for 11 years.
He had head trauma. He wound up going over to his ex-wife's house and made the mistake of thinking that she was drawing a pistol on him to shoot him. So he immediately responded and drew his weapon on her. He didn't shoot her. He wound up going to prison for 4 1/2 years. The prison guards broke the law against him repeatedly.

Cheetah on the Wing: Military History and Downfall by Mitchell Krautant is an engrossing memoir that will delight fans of the military genre. But there is more to it than that. It is the story of an interesting character who suffers under an unfair and unjust system. Mitchell joined the USMC, became a sniper, and took different assignments to become an instructor at the MWTC camp, training soldiers for Afghanistan. That was until he got injured and had to move to a different job, training for firearms. In an insane moment, he thought his ex-wife was drawing a pistol on him, so he drew his pistol on her, but he didn’t shoot her. But the consequences were terrible: she lied and had him put in prison. Follow this hero’s adventure through an abusive prison experience and more.
It is easy to appreciate the pathos that dominates the writing. Readers follow the story of a professional, a patriot, who, for some unfortunate reason, gets framed and put in prison, and who suffers all sorts of ignominy and inhumane treatment, including an attempt at homicide. His prison experience is described with vividness and Mitchell Krautant shows readers the dysfunction in state prisons and the inhumanity that tore at his flesh and soul. This is a memoir that will arouse powerful sentiments and emotions in readers. As I read, I could feel my anger rising as Mitchell suffers injustice. His is not the first story where someone has been put in jail because a woman lied about being abused. Cheetah on the Wing: Military History and Downfall is a moving story and the author offers a chronological account of his experience from joining the Marine Corps to being rewarded with prison. It is written in a compelling voice and in prose that is beautiful.
