Chasing Jesus is a short work of non-fiction on Christian themes of devotion and explorative Bible study, and was penned by author Jack Prohaska. Discussing a lifetime of experiences, the nature of having faith and the difficulties of maintaining such faith in the modern world, this is a deeply personal journey made by the author and recounted in a conversational and often autobiographical style. Prohaska takes his readers along with him through a series of what he terms incredible ‘coincidences’ that lead him through explorations of different belief systems, ultimately culminating in the Christ-risen Christianity which he now holds dear to his heart.
Though the narration is highly conversational and the plotlines of the biographical content sometimes take deviations here and there, what author Jack Prohaska has created is a lifetime in a book and a philosophy in which many readers with a crisis of faith are sure to find comfort. Christians, as the author rightly states, may have darker questions that they find difficult to voice, so having a narration as astute and emotionally honest as Prohaska’s really lends itself to the credibility of finding one’s faith despite personal doubts and fears. I particularly enjoyed the wry humor and self-deprecating style of the author, whose down to earth dialogue is direct and engaging for readers to follow. Overall, Chasing Jesus feels like a life story told by one old friend to another, and as such it delivers a powerful emotional authenticity alongside its hopeful and faithful devotion to God.
