This book takes an approach that smoking cessation is a matter of mind over matter. It combines Ellis' Rational-Emotive approach with behavior modification. It will appeal to smokers who are highly cognitive and sophisticated enough to dispute their own irrational beliefs.
There is not enough detail in the book to assist the reader through the rough times in the withdrawal process but the book is a sound manual for those who are already highly motivated to kick the habit. The author puts forth sound arguments for quitting for those who are already determined and independent thinkers. For those who approach smoking cessation with moderate motivation, the book might tease some cognitive beliefs into refraining. The author's method puts the success of quitting squarely on the shoulders of the smoker and, as such, will not appeal to those who adhere to a victim/disease model of looking at their cigarette addiction.
The book is an easy read and be be a "goodness of fit" for many readers.
