Haunted by her past, Rebecca has difficulty sleeping until she learns about a sleep hypnosis video. A few seconds into the video, Rebecca is still awake, but in another world—a carnival with all the exciting rides and sweet treats. But there is more. There is a tent where the most exotic sex act is publicly displayed. There’s also a very handsome man who has caught Rebecca’s attention. Since it is her dream, she decides to explore all the available pleasures. This world is pure escapism from her drab reality; it is a rated-18 Alice in Wonderland. However, some things are not right. Everything here feels too real, and everyone refers to the carnival as their dream. Whose dream is it, then? Read Faris O’Neill's Carnival of Dreams to find out.
Faris O’Neill created a very ideal contemporary fantasy world in Carnival of Dreams. I experienced the carnival through Rebecca’s eyes and loved every bit of it. The plot starts with thrilling action until the midpoint, where it takes a pleasantly slow turn, pulling my curiosity along. The resolution does not disappoint and has the telltale signs of a sequel. The characters were unique and realistic, and their conversations were engaging. Albeit primarily fantasy, the story tastefully incorporates other genres, including romance, mythology, and a pinch of science fiction. Speaking of romance, this adventure contains explicit sexual content. This book’s contemporary setting gives it an air of possibility, which I find curiously appealing. I enjoyed this one-of-a-kind book and recommend it, especially to fantasy lovers (mature audience only).
