Careless Love by Steve Zettler depicts a son’s investigation into discovering more about his biological father. His mother, Grace, revealed that his father was actually someone from her vacation in Hawaii. Determined to discover who his father was and what had happened to him, he takes several trips and interviews people that knew Grace and who she had fallen in love with. He learns that his mother had gone to Hawaii after being served divorce papers by her famous husband, Nick Rolston. During her trip, she fell in love with Lee Corbet, and a whirlwind romance ensued. Through the retelling of their stories, the people that Grace’s son interviews cast a light on what happened to Grace and her hidden romance.
Careless Love is a tale of love at first sight and self-discovery. There wasn’t a lot of focus on the son as the story is told through the eyes of Grace. I liked how she was cautious and preferred to limit her interactions with people. It was interesting how she met Lee Corbet, and I really believe that her best friend, Sally Fulton, set up the entire meeting since she was paying for Grace’s entire trip. Author Steve Zettler made the romance blossom naturally, and the conflicts that arose were realistic barriers that every relationship could possibly face. The details of the scenery allowed me to envision every moment that Grace experienced. I could see myself following in her footsteps without a second thought. The title of the book fits the feelings that the story gave me. Romance fans would be thrilled to read this book, which had me stunned at the conclusion.
