Captain Rosie and the Coasties: The Polar Express, written by Ron Ryan and illustrated by Gus Merlo, is an action-packed and colorfully illustrated short story for children aged 3-7 years. Following Captain Rosie and her coastguarding team, The Coasties, we get to see how they rescue a group of stranded polar bears whose ship The Polar Express had sunk. Combining friendship, courage, and teamwork, there's nothing that'll stop this crew from saving the day!
When I first read Captain Rosie and the Coasties: The Polar Express, I was drawn in by the eye-catching illustrations. Considering how difficult it is to capture a child's short attention span for any longer than three minutes, I had to applaud both Ron Ryan and Gus Merlo for achieving this difficult feat. I loved the concept of having all the characters portrayed as animals because it might help children learn about and identify animal species in real life. I also greatly appreciated how Ron began the story by introducing each main character and their role in the team. It helps children understand the story better. Ron also did an incredible job of instilling the importance of teamwork, friendship, and courage that'll help you face and solve your problems. In my opinion, this book also teaches its reader to be grateful for coast guards and others who constantly risk their lives to help save ours. This book is ideal for any parent looking for a great bedtime story to read to their kids!
