Cancer affects everyone. There probably isn’t a single family on the planet that isn’t somehow affected by cancer. You never know who will get it, or when. But, when you’re a child and you lose a parent, then a grandparent within months and not long after that your surviving parent is diagnosed with cancer, it can be quite scary, to say the least. There are so many different types of cancer and there are so many different cures. Some cancers are more deadly than others. It can be quite confusing, even for older people. Katerina was only five with her father and then her grandmother died from cancer. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, the two of them learned together about different cancers and ways to fight each cancer. They learned how one’s diet could help fight cancer; how to care for your skin with products that contain healthier, non-cancer promoting ingredients; how to avoid unhealthy air, like being around a heavy smoker. They made some drastic lifestyle changes and, in effect, made a concerted effort at “Kicking the door down on cancer.”
Demetra Tsavaris-Lecourezos and Katerina Lecourezos’s story, Cancer in My Family: An easy-to-read guide to better health for all ages, is a journey as two women, mother and daughter, face the battle with cancer head-on. This short book is written like a journal and shares valuable insights based on personal experience and life-changing exercises that helped them (and could help you) develop a healthier lifestyle, one that has a better chance at fighting (and winning) the battle against cancer. The book outlines key points, discusses different forms of cancer and different treatments, using simple language that people of all ages can understand. There is also a glossary at the end to clarify some of the more difficult words. This is a useful resource for families fighting their own battles against cancer.
