The delightful picture book, Can a Tree be Blue? by Audrey Sauble, is a great read for young children. This simple book provides details about different trees and their unique characteristics, specifically their colors. It uses beautifully illustrated pictures that are true to the nature of the trees and talks about each of their colorful shades. Ms. Sauble does an excellent job of identifying and including trees from many regions. She illustrates and discusses magnolias, willows, dogwoods, and birches, among many others. She also talks about the variety of colors and shades they take with each season.
Can a Tree be Blue? is a fun concept book for young children. It also has a bit of mystery that can capture the imagination and pique the curiosity of an older reader. Each picture is beautifully drawn and adds depth to the creative wording that the author has chosen to use. The simple phrasing and questions within the book make it easy for the beginning reader to follow along and feel as if they are an active participant. The page lengths are short and simple and keep the interest of young readers. This book would be a wonderful introduction for teachers or homeschooling mothers who are introducing colors, nature, or trees. Readers can easily picture themselves looking up at these tall trees and taking in the majesty that they possess. Audrey Sauble has created a beautiful picture book that would be a great addition to any home, classroom, or library setting.
