Cammie’s Big Dream by C. M. Harris is the lovely story of a little girl named Cammie and her dreams to do something wonderful and beneficial for all dogs. When Cammie visits the pet shelter, her heart reaches out, not just to one pet in particular, but to all of them. Her father, who accompanies her to the shelter, explains that they could not take care of all the pets themselves, which is what Cammie was eager to do. Yet, neither her mother nor father want to discourage their daughter’s desire and the possibility of making it happen. So they encourage her to think about what she really wants to do to help pets and see what ways come to her.
From this point, the story moves in an exciting direction that you’ll want to read all about for yourself. For my part, this is a beautiful story, not just about pets, but about family and how parents can help their children to achieve what appear to be far-reaching and impossible dreams. It is a story that will allow all children to unlock a unique and wonderful part of themselves that can lead them in the direction of making the seemingly impossible, possible.
The book is illustrated by Shifa Annisa. The drawings are large and engaging. They are filled with hope and promise and brightness, just like the story. I enjoyed the way that Cammie was able to make part of her need to help pets an immediate reality. My absolute favorite part of the story is how she discovers a way to make her heartfelt dream come true. At the close of the story, you just know that Cammie’s course is set and will not be altered and that so many pets will be blessed and happier because of her big dream. My thanks to you, C. M. Harris, for such a powerful children’s story.
