Burying the Dead (The Dead Series Book 4) by Kerry Blaisdell is an interesting take on what lengths people will go to in order to save their loved ones. Hyacinth Finch deals with Mafia demons to help find her nephew, Geordi. The idea that the demon, Marchosias, may have escaped Hell because Hyacinth and two other demons were near the portal causes added anger, resentment, and guilt. Will Hyacinth admit that she sees the dead and was already dead herself before being brought back to life? Can her ability, or the odd abilities of the demons, help them find what they are looking for without getting themselves killed and without a chance of being resurrected? Will they find Geordi, or is it already too late?
I absolutely loved the dark and exciting feel of Burying The Dead. Kerry Blaisdell brings a full range of emotion to this story with the main character, Hyacinth Finch, fighting her own confused affections while outwardly holding her own, even when bargaining with the Mafia demons over custody of Geordi. A full cast of ominous creatures from the darker edge of the world dominates this story. The dead, demons, and Satan--to name a few--play a part in keeping the reader focused on the main plot; finding and saving Geordi from the Hell demon that has taken him no matter what the cost might be. Burying The Dead has a well-rounded plot that allows for brilliant twists and turns that keep the reader turning pages, eager to see what happens next. I, for one, can’t wait to see what Blaisdell has in store for future readers! Well done!
