Bunny's Big Discovery, written by Mamma Macs and illustrated by Jane Carlisle, is about Bunny. He begins his day feeling sad, but he doesn’t know why. He tries to visit his friend Bear, to see if that will put him in a better mood. With Bear’s help, he realizes that he doesn’t need anyone else to make him feel happy; all he has to do is feel happiness from within. He uses the nature around him and his dreams and imagination to turn a sad day into a happy one.
I was immediately drawn to the cover of this book. The illustrations are so unique and unlike most children’s books I have come across. I am sure kids will enjoy the pictures all throughout the book. There is also an important lesson to be learned, which was my favorite thing about this story. When Bunny is sad, his first instinct is to go to a friend to see if this friend could make him happier. I think most of us can relate to this. We often rely on other people to make us happy, but what we really need to do is rely on ourselves to be happy, which is what Bunny learns in the end. The plot is rather simple, but this makes it easier for children to understand and relate to it. With its fun and colorful images, relatable storyline, and valuable life lesson, Mamma Macs’ Bunny’s Big Discovery will be a hit with both children and adults alike.
