Bumpa and The Piggies: The Neighbors Next Door (Volume 1) by Mike DeWald is an enchanting storybook that has some wonderful characters and a good message for young readers. Bumpa is excited by the fact that he is going to meet his granddaughters today. He knows they are eagerly waiting for his arrival. The moment he reaches them, he scoops them into his arms and twirls them around. While they are eating, the girls see an old Pig and two piglets tiptoe past their kitchen door. The girls, along with the Piggies, have a high tea in their garden and then play with the Piggies and have a lot of fun. The story helps readers understand the meaning of family, friends and love.
Kids will love this storybook for its warmth and exciting moments. The illustrations are lively and bright and give the story pace and movement. They also make the characters come alive. It's a good bedtime storybook and kids will find it enjoyable if used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Bumpa playing with the girls, thinking the Piggies are imaginary, is indeed very adorable. The values of family love and friendship form the highlight of this story filled with fun and mirth.
The fun things that come out of the suitcases will delight readers as much as they delight the kids in the story. The author weaves together family values, family love, grandparents and kids together to come up with a wonderful storybook.
