Bullied: It Begins With The "I" by Jason Lalli is a book that deals with the vicious cycle of bullying. It touches the roles of the three people in the scene: the bully, the one being bullied, and the bystander. The book covers the perspective of each person involved when bullying happens, and also covers an alternate and constructive approach to the issue of bullying. The author speaks about the overall importance of empowerment, awareness, responsibility, and choice that all parties involved in a bullying situation can have. The role of 'I' is also spoken about, where mental strength is necessary to break the cycle of bullying.
The book speaks about a relevant topic and is educational to all parents, teachers, educators, and counselors as to how to perceive a bullying situation. Bullying is now under the spotlight and people are more aware of it, which does help change the impact bullying has on people. The author's voice is strong and clear and reaches out to readers in a powerful way, making them look at bullying differently. The book also teaches readers who are being bullied the appropriate way to stand up for themselves.
The author's story and his ability to stay strong is instructive. It teaches readers awareness, responsibility, self-love, and mental strength. Self-awareness is the stepping stone to personal success, and the author's recovery from sadness and self-defeat came from applying this philosophy of self-awareness.
