Bloody Feathers: Death of the Cardinal is a conspiracy thriller written by Bruce Lewis. Jed Miller and his wife, Lexi, are the founders of the Red Flock, an exclusive club for millionaires who want to own rare birds. Under the pretext that the Red Flock protects endangered bird species, birds are illegally imported for the right price. Lexi tries to paint birds as realistically as in the volumes of The Birds of America. However, she doesn't have the talent for it. She decides she will succeed if she has the right books to work from. Lexi has a deal with Bruce, a bookstore owner, to buy the set for two million, but after his death, his brother raises the price. Lexi will stop at nothing to get the volume, even if it ruins her own and her husband's future.
Bloody Feathers is Book 3 in the Kim Jansen Detective series. It is fast-paced and full of action. Bruce Lewis planned and executed a unique and complex plot brilliantly. I was glued to the pages from the start and was intrigued by the storyline. I could not believe that Lexi would go to such lengths to prove herself as a painter. The twists and turns made for a roller coaster ride. The story was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I never knew what to expect next. It was a page-turner, and I could not put it down. There was no way I could predict who the killer was. The characters were authentic and relatable. This story was excellently written and held my attention until the end.
