Blood Bound by K. Carter is a young adult coming of age story about loss and sacrifice. When Rian's cousin dies, his family is devastated. They pack up and move at the start of Rian's junior year in high school, shaking up the normalcy he had in his life. In his new home, Rian is trying to hold his family together, but he's not succeeding very well. He's also determined to comfort his cousin's girlfriend, Emily, who has taken the death of her boyfriend very hard. But as Rian and Emily spend more time together, they realize there might be something blossoming between them. Rian struggles with these conflicting emotions. How can he respect and honor his cousin's memory by falling in love with his girlfriend? At the same time, Rian is dealing with new information of betrayal, deep secrets, and dark lies. How can he possibly choose? For he has to know who to trust.
Blood Bound is a very sad, emotionally gut wrenching story that will touch readers' hearts and pull them in from page one. K. Carter did a really nice job of creating characters that feel authentic and that jump off the page. Readers will be rooting for Rian and Emily all the way through the story, and feel every emotion, cry every tear, and smile at every smile that they give one another. It was a truly touching story and created the emotions that the story set out to portray.
