In Bipolar: The Sacred Dance by Jessica M. Roberge, we get an intimate glimpse at the inner workings of a bipolar mind. After finishing her paralegal studies and embarking on a career, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2002 at the age of twenty. This was after reading the book The Celestine Prophecy and a wild night with an acquaintance, Rob, who fed her several drugs that triggered her mania. Jessica had several manic episodes after this and was subsequently admitted five times to a hospital, the most recent of which happened in Thanksgiving of 2010. She also goes through a couple of failed relationships including one with Jafar Khan, a man of Middle Eastern and questionable origin. When things seem very bleak, she comes across the book A Course in Miracles. Will she find stability in life in spite of her mental condition? This is her moving story.

Bipolar: The Sacred Dance is an autobiography written by Jessica M. Roberge. In all frankness and candor, she relates her struggles with everyday life as a bipolar and how she barely copes with them. Written in the first person perspective, her story is an attempt to reduce the stigma associated with people who are like her, diagnosed with mental illnesses. Life is already quite complicated for normal people so one can just imagine what it is like for people like Jessica who dances between bouts of mania and depression. When she details her manic episodes, it is with such clarity that one cannot help but think of the dangers she puts herself in. In the end, Jessica is able to deal with being bipolar. She has clearly gone through a difficult journey and comes out of it stronger and more determined. This makes this book an inspiration to all.
