It was Bella's first day of school and as she jumped out of bed, she felt bubbles in her belly. While Bella put on her first-day-of-school clothes, ate her breakfast, and put on her shoes, she felt bubbles in her belly. Bella was excited to learn how to read and make new friends. In the classroom there were many students, some were quiet, some were loud, some were happy, and some seemed sad. Their teacher, Mrs. Avery, asked them to introduce themselves and when Bella's turn came, she was scared to open her mouth. Once everyone introduced themselves, Mrs. Avery told them what they would be learning and asked them all to smile at each other and become friends. When her mother came to pick her up, Bella told her how the day went and how Mrs. Avery told the class that making friends always starts with a smile. The next day when Bella got ready for school, she knew it would be a wonderful day.
Bella's Bubbles and Butterflies by Wanda Kay Knight is a cute story that takes young readers on a wonderful journey along with Bella on her first day of school. The story will give confidence to young children while going to school for the first time and help them realize that although they fear their first day of school, it might end up much better than they expected. They will learn that school can be fun and they can make new friends there. Kirsten Girlinghouse's illustrations are wonderful and they give a good pace and movement to the story. The message is positive and will remove all the anxiety and worries kids experience on their first day of school.
