Bee Conspiracy by David Boito is a fantastic environmental thriller. Detective “Duke” Wayne has been put on admin leave, doing desk work for the LAPD. Desperate, he’ll do whatever it takes to get back to Robbery-Homicide, so when he’s asked to produce a report on an accidental bee sting death, he jumps at the chance. He thinks it will be an easy ticket but he couldn’t be more wrong. His new partner, a US Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent, is an expert on insects and thinks this was no accident – it was murder. Kelso Bagley takes Duke on a journey he will never forget through the world of robotized farming and beekeeping, and there they discover a huge conspiracy involving weaponized insects. Can they get to the truth in time?
Bee Conspiracy by David Boito is a unique kind of story, a combination of crime and environmental thriller. It’s a gripping tale filled with action and a little romance, and there are plenty of surprises along the way. It’s also a timely book, given the current decline in bees the world over, and although it is a little out there, what’s to say something like this couldn’t happen in the future? The characters develop throughout the story, evolving into real people that you can relate to. It is fast-paced, a real action thriller with plenty of guns, and makes for incredibly compelling reading. It is clear the author has done his research for this book and created a terrifying, thrilling crime mystery with an element of horror. If you love a good mystery story, this is the book for you.
