Beam Me Up, written by Fabian Ferguson and illustrated by Trudi-Ann Hemans, is a picture book that tells the story of a little boy with a fantastically wild imagination. Once his momma tucks him into bed and says goodnight, the day is not over for him. This is where the fun begins. He looks out his window at the night sky and lets his mind and his imagination wander. From aliens to robots and dinosaurs, this boy wonders how magical life could be away from the home he is so used to on Earth, and he also learns an unexpected lesson, which makes this story even more touching.
This unbelievably cute story really warmed my heart. The charming story and the beautiful illustrations come together perfectly in this book. As a teacher and a mother, I have always seen firsthand and admired how vivid and wondrous a child’s imagination can be. To see that imagination come to life through these colorful images, as well as the realistic portrayal of his life on Earth, was such a pleasure to see. I found myself sitting there, taking it all in, page by page. Author Fabian Ferguson and illustrator Trudi-Ann Hemans are the ultimate team. Kids will love Beam Me Up while enjoying going on adventures with this boy and having fun with all the creatures in his fantasy world. I can’t wait to read more books from this fantastic duo. They have gained a new fan in me. Keep up the amazing work!
