Born and raised in Maryland, Erich began writing short stories when he was 13 years old. Raised in a military family, his passions always steered him to write what he loved most - stories about the U.S. Military. He typically centered one central character fighting internal struggles or exchanging volleys in a fierce firefight. Throughout his lifetime, he has written over 200 stories (most of which are unpublished) and three books, with his most recent book 'Battlefield America' being released in 2017.
Bringing some of his own personal stories through his experiences through 15 years in the Navy, Erich captures the reality of American troops serving in countries and areas of which many people have never heard. Characters and events are written to bring honor and tribute to a small population of Americans who do so much for a larger population generally unaware of the sacrifices being made by Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen and their families. On his last deployment to the Middle East, Erich spent 16 months away from his wife and child. Since he understands the sacrifice the family makes in the absence of their deployed loved one, he is able to relate that into word, with hopes that the average person reading a story or book can understand that as well.
Now residing in Arizona, he remains dedicated to his commitment to his God, his family, his country, and his Navy.

Battlefield America by Erich Hartung is a modern day military war story with a twist. Instead of the bombings and battles being played out across the oceans, it is on the home soil of the United States that an unexpected attack takes place in the early hours of Christmas morning. Under siege and with a war raging within contiguous proximity to loved ones, a rising of the US military soon blazes and those who can do fight. "At first, he joined for revenge; later he realized that making that type of commitment involved more than vengeance or a thirst for blood. After his mourning, he began to heal."
Suspense, thrills, action, grenades, machine guns....no, this is not my Christmas list. This is Battlefield America by Erich Hartung. Following the points of view of a mixed bag of fantastically drawn and well developed characters, as a reader I was taken to the front line without ever having to leave my armchair. Hartung definitely knows the military and, as luck would have it, he is also a skilled and descriptive writer, packaging the war up into scenes that could play out on any big screen. "Their brother whom they had been fighting beside for a long time was suddenly gone. With the bombardment of gunfire, there was no real time to grieve. The three airmen continued the fight." The narrative is dense in text and backstory in a style reminiscent of Tom Clancy, and I am of the opinion that this novel - with all of its military jargon, technical expertise, and a plot line that delivers throughout - will find a wide audience with readers who adore a more intelligent brand of war fiction.
