Baseball Bobby's Monsterrific Day by Debra Kilgore is an exciting read for children, one which will be helpful in encouraging positive thinking in them. Babe Ruth is one of the powerful hitters of the game and he is coaching Bobby, who now has everything going for him. It's at that time his mom wakes him up from his dream. Bobby was born with weak legs which meant he had to wear braces while growing up. Though he does not require braces anymore, Bobby is still unsure whether he can be as good as the other players. Though the kids call him Bench Bobby, he likes to be known as Baseball Bobby. He is going to replace Speedy Pete and he is worried if he can meet the challenge of being Pete's replacement. Will Bobby be able to get rid of his fears and emerge a hero that day?
The story is interesting and has a good message for young readers. Bobby's issues of self-doubt and his fascinating time with the Monster who makes his way through the bathtub are indeed very delightful to young readers. The story makes a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. It's heartwarming to see Bobby's triumphs and heartrending to see his struggles to succeed and be known as Baseball Bobby. The concept is good and the message is excellent. Positive thinking is encouraged in young readers; motivational thoughts for children to get rid of their fears and self-doubts.
