Awaken to Your True Self: Why You're Still Stuck and How to Break Through by Andrew Daniel is a spiritual psychology self-help guide for those who think that they are stuck in a cycle of varying degrees of personal mediocrity. The book is broken down into two distinct and interconnected parts. The first, How You Got Here, focuses on the nine reasons a reader is stuck. The issues include, but are by no means limited to, being mindfully realistic and stripping out everything but the facts, being honest about whether or not we like the struggle, the limitations of both over-thinking, focusing outwardly, and not playing the perpetual victim. The second, Moving Forward, provides the answers to transitioning forward, all wrapped up in Daniel's nine ways to get unstuck.
There's a lot to unpack in Awaken to Your True Self, partly because Andrew Daniel covers a lot of mileage at a relatively rapid pace, which was refreshing given that the book is lengthy. Everything Daniel writes is meaningful and relevant. What makes it hard to unpack is the amount of work that is required of a reader to get the job done. The job, of course, being ourselves. I saw myself in the section on living in a fantasy, which is a form of denial. For example, I tend to look in the mirror and tell myself that my arms being thin is temporary and that I'm just a future muscle-man in the making. Never mind that I do nothing to strengthen my body. It's a fantasy. A denial of now. That's stuck. It is really hard to get past, which is why Daniel's work is like a bolt of lightning. I'm in the process of moving forward and committed to it and have this book to thank. Highly recommended.
