Aunt Truly’s Tales: Enchantment for Story Lovers is a work of children’s fiction by Laura McHale Holland. Finding some milk for Grandma’s coffee seems like a simple enough task. But can it evolve into a long, engaging story? One little girl, who really just wanted someone to play with or someone to tell her a story, asked Grandma for a story, but Grandma wouldn’t share a story unless the little girl did first. The little girl claimed she didn’t have any stories to share, so Grandma sent her to get some milk for her coffee, and this evolved into a chain of events that became a wonderful adventure. Life is a story full of wonder and lessons learned. The age-old art of storytelling may be a thing of the past for many, but the stories are still there, just waiting to be told, waiting to be shared.
Laura McHale Holland’s collection of whimsical stories, Aunt Truly’s Tales: Enchantment for Story Lovers, will warm the hearts of the young at heart, no matter their age. The stories are short and each one, like a classic fairy tale, teaches a life lesson. The language is simple, as is the plot, but the stories are thorough and cleverly told. There are some illustrations to accompany this classic collection. In her introduction, the author provides some telling comments, referring to the main character in one of her novels, The Kiminee Dream, where Carly Mae first came into Windy Wood and encountered Aunt Truly, the classic storyteller. The stories, the author explains, are written as if being shared with Carly Mae, which adds another dimension, another story in itself, to this fabulous collection. The stories are enchanting and will be enjoyed for generations.
