In Attribution by Linda Moore, a woman who never gives up must understand the history of a piece of art in order to unlock her future. Cate Adamson, an art historian, left her parents after the death of her brother to pursue her doctorate in New York. But her journey is upended when her advisor dismisses her. Determined to stop at nothing to save her career, she takes with her a hidden painting she discovered in the University basement, believing that it might be a masterpiece from the seventeenth century. She travels to Spain, seeking experts in art, where she meets a poor nobleman, Antonio, with whom she undertakes the task of uncovering the origins of the painting. The accidental meeting with a duke whose only possession is the dying House of Olivares will lead to unexpected discoveries, unveiling the truth behind the painter and the painting. But is Cate ready to risk everything, including her future with Antonio and her career, in revealing this truth?

A well-researched story with historical hints, Attribution by Linda Moore will grab the interest of art lovers and fans of historical fiction instantly. Linda Moore creates characters that are sophisticated and memorable. Cate is a genuinely flawed character, a woman who is driven by her desire for success in the field of arts and who carries deep family scars. She happens to have an advisor who is a misogynist and fate turns against her. Antonio is an impoverished duke who has very little left to be proud of, but the encounter with Cate will bring sunshine into his life. The writing is gorgeous, sprinkled with lovely dialogues and mesmerizing descriptions. The reader is left in no doubt that this novel is well researched and the author has the ability to seamlessly weave historical elements into the story without any digression from the main plot. It is an enjoyable read.
