Perfect for the coffee table, bathroom or even book club that wants to explore the old saying, ‘Many a true thing is said in jest’, Ask Me About My Grandcats by Michael Jenkins is definitely humorous. This collection of 58 comedy essays will really make you laugh, grimace and nod your head, but will also leave you thinking about just how true many of these cynical and enlightening stories really are. Diverse topics such as “You’re Cordially Invited to the Anderson Monthly Neighborhood Orgy”, “Another Slow Day at the Suicide Prevention Center” and “How Domino’s 2 for 1 Medium Pizza Deal (limit one topping) Saved My Marriage” irreverently lampoon social conventions and leave you thinking, “Oh no, he didn’t!” Adult language and situations make this book unsuitable for younger audiences, but adults will certainly appreciate the smiles, laughs and snarky humor this no-holds-barred writing provides.
With imagined interviews poking fun at the subjects’ attitudes and other pieces that voice what many people think but would never say, this compilation will really catch your interest, maybe even shock you, but definitely entertain you. Making fun of everyday situations and well-recognized personalities and situations is Jenkins’ strong point and his clever mocking shows a deep understanding of our hidden motivations and desires. Michael Jenkins has created a collection of essays that would be perfect comedy skits on stage at any club with Ask Me About My Grandcats. Perfect to absorb in one sitting or savored story by story, Jenkins’ wit and insights into human psychology are truly engaging and entertaining. Great book! I loved the not so tongue in cheek humor and the range of the author's material.
