Another Butterfly tells the story of four friends: Wu, Daphne, Atsa, and Aiyana. Although they follow the same path to discover themselves, they live very different experiences according to their emotional and spiritual needs. Courageously they accept a mysterious journey to the Spirit World and healing ceremonies. Another Butterfly contains references to various thought systems such as Buddhism, shamanism, and Taoism. The book talks about nature and encourages us to want to explore our spiritual side. Throughout this story, Howchi Kilburn talks about the balance of energies with very well-explained references. He also invites you to leave cultural programming and distorted esoteric definitions. In addition, there are many explanations about life to get out of the cycles of emotions and free our minds in this story.
It is surprising to find references from so many systems of thought that all agree. I liked Another Butterfly for that and because at the same time it talks about respecting Mother Earth, respecting ourselves, and acquiring knowledge. One of my favorite parts was the story of Shee because Howchi Kilburn creates mythology full of symbolism. That part, inspired by a remote era, shows ideas that invite reflection on the nature of people, considering feminine and masculine energies. I also liked that the characters are of different ages because that shows it is never too late to look for the path to freedom. If we can accept ourselves, we will be able to accept the real world.
