Andy Smithson: Blast of the Dragon's Fury, Book 1 by L. R. W. Lee is an adventure story. Andy Smithson's parents have no time for him because they are caught up with their ambitious lives and his sister is a spoilt brat. Andy is not aware of the fact that he is also in the line of rulers of the land of Oomaldee which was cursed 500 years before his birth. The adventure begins when he is pulled into Oomaldee one day while washing dishes. He meets flying horses, a lisping wizard, fire breathing dragons, people eating giants, and many more characters that will blow your mind.
Adventure stories always captivated me for the kind of magical characters and whimsical names that the authors come up with. It always shows a side of their creativity, apart from the story line. The kind of characters that Andy meets on his trip in Oomaldee will enthrall any reader. The twists and turns, plot, and subplots are all woven together beautifully by the author to make a magical adventure story. The way Andy's life is transported from boredom to fun and adventure is what makes the story. From a neglected boy, he suddenly becomes someone very important.
The underlying message of overcoming boredom, fear, and jealousy is conveyed very well. The book is so interesting that I am sure all the readers will be waiting eagerly to see what happens in Book 2.
