Andy was playing the Pharaoh in the second-grade play in school and it was late. As he was practicing his lines he saw a striped cat looking at him. Andy tried to entice the cat to play by taking off his necklace, but the cat snatched it and ran away. Andy wanted to get his necklace back and he chased the cat to their pyramid set. The cat managed to get onto a path. Andy followed the path all the way down to what looked like an Egyptian town. He could not see the cat anywhere. The marketplace was crowded and there was so much for Andy to see there. As he wandered down the street, he saw the cat at his feet but it bolted through an ornate doorway. Andy followed the cat into the throne room where the Pharaoh sat. He told the Pharaoh he was his biggest fan, respectfully bowed to him, and followed the cat. Would Andy be able to get his necklace back and find his way back to the stage?
Andy And The Pharaoh's Cat by Carolyn Watson Dubisch is an entertaining story that will take young readers to the Pharaoh's court and also give them glimpses of an Egyptian town. The illustrations are wonderful and colorful and breathe life into the story and the scenes. There is an element of mystery and suspense in the story as Andy follows the cat, which will leave readers wanting to know what will happen next. The Egyptian backdrop evokes the setting of an ancient land in the story. It is a book for all those youngsters who love adventure and mystery as they go with Andy in search of the cat.
