In An Unexpected Redemption by Davalynn Spencer, Betsy returns to the town she left suddenly. From the moment she steps off the train, Sheriff Garrett is there to tease her, help her and to maybe fall in love with her. God is very much a part of the story and we see His hand working in both Betsy's and Garrett's lives. The fires that are set in various places around town portray the historical problems that were present for the cowboys in the real old Western days.
Davalynn Spencer certainly knows how to create believable characters with personality. Betsy and Sheriff Garrett are the main characters. Maggie adds the sweet touch of the little old lady boarding house owner and friend. Anthony Rochester is the character that is impossible to like as he slinks about town. While the story was somewhat predictable, it was still hard to put down. I am a great fan of the Western cowboy genre and An Unexpected Redemption did not disappoint for a single moment. Everything I could possibly expect -- mystery, suspense, romance, faith in God, cowboys and so much more -- fills each page.
An Unexpected Redemption is a historical, spiritually driven, Western cowboy romance. I did not read the first book in this series and yet I never felt confused. However, I am sure that when I do read it, there will be ‘Oh, that makes more sense' moments. I think that An Unexpected Redemption is a winner and you will enjoy reading it. I also would love to see this as a Hallmark movie.
